Valerie is a registered midwife who has held concurrent joint clinical and research positions for over a decade. Her strategy as a researcher is to remain embedded in clinical practice which enables her to keep her finger on the pulse of current issues impacting the care and outcomes of pregnant women and issues impacting the ability of the workforce to provide high quality care. Her dual roles further facilitates timely and collaborative research generation and rapid translation of evidence into practice. Valerie's research interests focuses on: (1) maternity care and outcomes of women with complex psychosocial needs; (2) measurement and delivery of high value maternity care using longitudinal patient-reported data; (3) identification and addressing unwarranted clinical variation in maternity care; (4) development and psychometric evaluation of patient-reported outcome/experience measures; (5) development and evaluation of standardised core outcome sets for clinical and research application; (6) digital health technology and innovation in maternity care.
