Professor Kumar is Head of Discipline for Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Queensland’s Faculty of Medicine and Senior Specialist in Maternal & Fetal Medicine/Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the Mater Mothers’ Hospital in Brisbane, Australia. He is also Lead of the Mothers, Babies and Women’s Health research theme at the Mater Research Institute-University of Queensland and Visiting Professor at Imperial College London and Queensland University of Technology.
He trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Singapore, United Kingdom and Australia and has a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Oxford. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (UK) and Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists. He completed his subspecialist Fellowship in Maternal & Fetal Medicine at Queen Charlotte’s & Chelsea Hospital/Imperial College London. Prof Kumar is an accredited MFM subspecialist both in the UK and Australia.
His area of research interests is in fetal therapy, fetal imaging, placental biomarkers and the prediction of adverse perinatal outcomes. He has published >140 papers, many book chapters and a popular textbook of Fetal Medicine.
